Please tell your MP to attend the NHS/Social Care Commission Commons debate this Thursday 28th Jan.

There will be a full Commons debate on an independent cross-party NHS/Social Care Commission on Thursday 28th January in the main Chamber. This is an amazing achievement and we need you to encourage your MP’s to attend this and back the call.

Labour MPs who have already expressed their support for a Commission include former health spokesperson Liz Kendall, former Health Minister Ivan Lewis, Tulip Siddiq, and Graham Allen. Conservative MP’s include former Health Minister Dr Dan Poulter, Dr Andrew Murrison, and Dr Phillip Lee.   Supporting Liberal Democrat MPs include former Health Minister Norman Lamb, Tim Farron, and former Ministers Tom Brake, Nick Clegg and Alistair Carmichael. Green MP Caroline Lucas has also backed the call.

The Royal College of Surgeons, Prof Sir John Oldham (who conducted a health review for Labour), and 40 charities, including British Red Cross, Mencap, Stroke Association, and Macmillan Cancer Support, have also backed the call.

NHS Doctor and Conservative MP Dr Dan Poulter said earlier this week:

“It is clear to me that the Government must work urgently with other political parties, public and staff to establish a long-term consensus for the NHS and care well before the next Election. We must build on the work of the Five Year Forward View and the Barker Commission, to urgently achieve a responsible long-term consensus now. So I call on both Government and Opposition to urgently start work on a cross-party NHS/Social Care Commission.”
