NHS Survival has been invited to speak at a Unite conference to discuss 'how doctor's can save the NHS' on Saturday 17th October in London.
The conference in London entitled: Doctors and Medical Students – our role in saving the NHS - will be addressed by Dr Clare Gerada, former chair, Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and former medical advisor to NHS London.
Other organisations invited to speak include: Crash Call for the NHS, Doctors in Unite, Doctors of the World UK, Medact, Medsin, NHS Doctors for the NHS, Patients First and the Socialist Health Association.
Dr Hugh Harvey, radiologist at the Royal Marsden Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research, will be representing NHS Survival at the conference. He said "The unite conference takes place on the very same day that tens of thousands of NHS staff will be gathering in London to protest a wide variety of issues, including contracts, patient safety, staff morale and pay. This is a great opportunity to show solidarity across the organisation, and to highlight the bigger picture of chronic under-funding and unsustainable proposals by the current government - something that NHS Survival believes could potentially be solved by a cross-party independent Royal Commission."
Unite/MPU chair Dr Ron Singer said: “Recent political events show that many people want something hopeful and positive from politicians. This chimes with the enduring popularity of the NHS as publicly owned and providing a high quality service."
Doctors and medical students wishing to attend the event, which takes place in the morning before planned London protests, can purchase tickets here.
